Frequently asked questions
How many bosses are in Phantom Blade Zero?+
At least 50, per director Soulframe Liang's pre-launch interview. That count includes optional bosses and rematches. Our list has 52 so far.
What is the first boss in Phantom Blade Zero?+
Zuo Shang. The prologue starts with a sparring match against him that you can't lose, and then you fight him for real. See the Zuo Shang guide.
Is there a puppet boss?+
Yes, several. The first is the Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet, an optional fight in Weeping Creek Valley. You can't really beat it early, so come back later; you can rematch it. Village of Lu also has Dusk, The Puppeteer and the musician puppet Yuzan, and Mandate Encampment has the swordfighter puppet Yubi.
Is there a boss rush mode?+
Not confirmed. Pre-launch coverage mentioned rematches and boss-rush style end-game content, but nobody has confirmed a boss rush mode since launch. You can rematch some bosses, such as the Three-Faced Puppet.
Who is the final boss?+
No source we trust has confirmed the final boss yet, so we won't guess. When it's confirmed we'll add it behind a spoiler blur.
Are the bosses hard?+
Reviews describe the bosses as fast and parry-heavy, in the Sekiro mould. You can change difficulty at any time, and the lowest setting is meant for players who mainly want the story. See difficulty.
